Retirement in Tucson

Hiking in the Sabino Canyon near Tucson

Arizona is one of the most popular retirement destinations in America and Tucson has much to offer. Tucson is located in a desert valley and is surrounded by mountain ranges. The desert contains much interesting natural growth. There are abundant green trees such as Palo Verde, Mesquite and Cottonwood, and many varieties of cacti which bloom in a profusion of color from April until late May. In Tucson’s residential areas native desert landscaping is popular, and many other types of shrubs and flowers grow easily.

Tucson is cradled by the Santa Catalina Mountains to the north, the Rincon Mountains to the east, the Tucson Mountains to the west, and the Santa Rita and Sierrita Mountains to the south. These natural areas provide scenic views, wonderful hiking and walking, and contribute to Tucson’s superb weather. The spectacular Saguaro cactus grows in abundance in the Tucson area.

Weather is warm and sunny throughout most of the year, and the air is remarkably dry, with a low relative humidity. Though daytime summer temperatures are high, the temperature drops at sunset, providing cool, comfortable evenings. Winters are mild, and frost is rare.
